The NSW Government’s planning reform legislation has now passed through Parliament. This is the first step in delivering a more efficient and transparent planning system for NSW.

The Commission will undertake the following functions:

  • Determine applications for regionally significant development where there is no joint regional planning panel;
  • Provide advice to the Minister on planning and development matters;
  • Conduct public hearings into aspects of proposals for a concept plan, major project or development;
  • Conduct merit reviews of the decisions of a joint regional planning panel.

Selection Criteria: Interested persons will be required to demonstrate a high level of expertise in one or more of the following fields: planning, architecture, heritage, the environment, urban design, land economics, traffic and transport, law, engineering, tourism, or government and public administration, as well as having:

  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with multiple stakeholders;
  • High-level communication skills;
  • Capability to drive high-profile outcomes in a credible and authoritative manner;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.

An appropriate remuneration package will be negotiated.
Submissions addressing the above criteria should be made in writing to:

Director-General
NSW Department of Planning
GPO Box 39

Interested people wishing to be appointed, or nominate, may discuss the matter with Veronica Young, Acting Director, Office of the Director-General on (02) 9228-6112. Information packages are available on request.

Closing date for submissions: August 8, 2008
